A start-up backed by sports stars Steve Smith, Nick Kyrgios and Naomi Osaka has lost a co-founder, several staff and been written down to $0 by its largest investor but is determined to grow with a new model.

One Future Football, founded last year, simulates soccer matches with fictional players, and users can assemble these into their own teams.
