    Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos, the Florida-headquartered giant pitching itself as a saviour of struggling gaming group Star Entertainment, already has a sprawling portfolio of properties the world over.

    On Monday, Star confirmed reports in The Australian Financial Review that an affiliate of Hard Rock, owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, had made an unsolicited proposal. While it is far from a formal takeover bid, Star shares surged 20 per cent.
