    Washington | If the two most important bills Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has introduced are anything to go by, it’s fair to say the most senior Republican in Congress is governing from a Democrat base.

    And McCarthy’s reliance on Democrat support for bills that have averted government shutdowns only fires up his own party’s hardliner right-wing faction. The House Freedom Caucus is now threatening to take the Speaker’s gavel from him.
