    Tokyo | China is failing to deliver promised multi-billion-dollar projects in South-East Asia, even as the battle for influence intensifies in the region with the US and its allies, new research shows.

    Cost blowouts, local political instability and China’s economic pressures mean $US50 billion ($77 billion) of promised Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects are unlikely to be completed, data compiled by the Lowy Institute shows.
