    The Albanese government would face a backlash from Western Australia that could push it into minority government, should it yield to Senate crossbench demands to double the size of the increase to the Petroleum Resources Rent Tax, sources have warned.

    With the Coalition refusing to commit to a position until it sees the legislation for the $2.4 billion increase, and the Senate Greens and independents wanting to double the revenue, federal Labor sources said there was no prospect of acceding to the latter.
