Marles, Wong rebuff Morrison call to sanction Chinese officials

Senior ministers have rebuffed former prime minister Scott Morrison’s call for the government to consider imposing sanctions on Chinese officials accused of human rights abuses in Xinjiang.

Mr Morrison used a speech on Friday in Tokyo to say there was “credible and actionable” evidence about the mistreatment of the Uighur ethnic minority, and the government should not be deterred by the threat of reprisals if it went ahead with sanctioning those officials.
