    Farmers say Australia’s supermarket giants are slugging them to pay for consumer specials, cutting the price paid for fresh produce at the same time as customers are offered cost-of-living discounts.

    The National Farmers Federation told a Senate inquiry that fruit and vegetable producers who spoke out about the supermarkets’ aggressive behaviour risked “commercial retribution”, and warned that Australia’s food security was under threat.
