    The Australian sharemarket finished the first week of 2018 at a decade-high 6122.30 points, buoyed by fresh records on Wall Street where the Dow Jones surpassed 25,000 points for the first time.

    The S&P/ASX 200 Index added 45 points or 0.74 per cent on Friday for a weekly gain of 0.94 per cent. Shares rose for a third day in a row, propelled by local financials and materials stocks, for the best session since October.
