    Pirelli pessimistic

PIRELLI Cables Australia Ltd has blamed tough competition for a forecast dramatic slump in its annual earnings. The cables manufacturer said it expected to post a post-abnormals net profit for the 1995 calendar year of only $4.7 million, down from the $12.61 million recorded for 1994. Profit before abnormal items and tax was forecast to come in around $8.8 million, against $18.59 million previously, it said. Pirelli blamed the deterioration on "the continuing highly competitive environment in all market sectors, together with some manufacturing problems experienced during the second half of 1995".
