    Lighting retailer Beacon has blamed the falling cost of solar energy installations and excessive red tape for a decision to turn off the lights in its energy business.

    Beacon plans to wind down its 11-year-old energy solutions business at a cost of between $3.4 million and $3.9 million and will not seek new sales after completing current contracts.
