    United States ambassador Caroline Kennedy has warned Australia’s battery minerals sector is under assault from state-owned Chinese companies in Indonesia, where vulnerable communities are being destroyed “under the guise of economic development”.

    Speaking at a mining conference in Perth, Ms Kennedy said the US was mobilising political and economic tools to head off the challenge from China. She urged the private sector to do its part to support Australia’s high-quality battery minerals industry.
