In the months after Renato Mota was made acting chief executive of the 180-year-old wealth management giant IOOF, he often wondered if he’d been given the ultimate hospital pass.
His predecessor, Chris Kelaher, had been forced to stand aside as the company was engulfed in the Hayne royal commission firestorm, and Mota faced a long rebuild.
