Google in negotiations to strike new media deals

Google’s Australian boss, Melanie Silva, has committed to renegotiating future payments to local news companies, under the government’s media bargaining code, but said it was too soon to strike similar deals for content used to train artificial intelligence models.

In her first public comments since Facebook owner Meta said it would stop paying news publishers about $70 million a year for content when existing deals expire this year, Ms Silva said Google had already returned to the bargaining table.
