NSW has officially put local councils that oppose more housing on notice, enforcing transport density reforms immediately for the one Sydney-based council that refused to co-operate on increasing housing while rewarding other councils with deferrals.

The Minns government on Monday put into force its signature housing supply package, which is focused on lifting height limits and density near town centres and public transport, to potentially add more than 170,000 new homes to the city.
