Tasmanian election power pledges damned as ‘reckless’

Election promises by Tasmania’s major parties to curb sales of hydroelectricity to the mainland to bring down household energy bills are reckless and will hurt the state’s budget, a respected economist says.
Tasmanian Labor leader Rebecca White and Liberal Premier Jeremy Rockliff have both promised to lower energy prices using Hydro Tasmania if they win Saturday’s state election, including by limiting sales of power to Victoria.
