Calling time on international student numbers
Australia’s universities and colleges are fighting plans to reduce international student numbers. Spurred by the housing crisis, the government thinks it has no choice.
Ignore much of the outrage from universities and colleges about restrictions on international student numbers. This is the necessary price to be paid by a sector and a government that allowed a system to grow out of control in a chase for immediate financial benefits.
That this shell game has imploded politically as part of the national crisis over housing is hardly a surprise. What is more alarming is how the increasing warning signs were conveniently ignored.
